Step1: Decide which version to install

Windows 7 does come with array of choices to select from, mainly categorized to Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate. Make sure which version you want to install in your system. It will save the file either in Downloads folder or your chosen folder. Double click the program for installation. Read carefully the terms and conditions. Accept it and click on install.

Step 4: Launch Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

After installation, start the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor program by selecting it from the start button or click on icon if any shortcut has been created on the desktop. After the program opens, plug in all equipments via USB of the computer, and then select the Start Check option. After careful examination, the program will display results like which part of the system needs to be updated with latest drivers or should be replaced. Take a print out of the report and buy updated parts and software from the store required for your system.

Step 5: Choose Correct Install Option

There are mainly two methods available for installing Windows 7 on a system:

  • A custom or clean installation
  • An upgrade installation.

The first method which is a custom installation will remove every single data from your system. It’s advisable to take backup of all your system data and settings on an external hard drive and once installation of Windows 7 is done, transfer all the data back to your system.

With the second option of upgrade installation, Vista/XP will be overwritten by Windows 7 without deleting any files on the system. Upgrade installation can be done for numerous editions of Vista/XP depending on which edition of Windows 7 you want to install.

Step 6: Run Windows 7 Setup

Put the Windows 7 DVD into DVD drive and if required click on Run Setup. Click Install Now option. After starting the process, select “go online” for latest updates option. It will install patches, fixes, and drivers for a specific computer, which will make the installation run smoothly. Next to accept the agreement license if it appears.

Step 6: Select Upgrade

On which type of installation you want screen, select upgrade option. Go through with the report appear on the screen and click Next.

Step 7: Type Windows 7 Product Key

Type Your Product Key in input box and click Next. Choose recommended settings in the next screen.

Step 8: Date and Time Settings Dialog Box

Set correct date and time on the screen. If your system is on network, then select appropriate location.

Step 9: Select Computer Location

Three options Work, Home, and Public will appear in case your system is connected to a network, out of which you can choose one to set as your computer location.

Step 10: Log on into the system

After setting computer location, Windows 7 will appear with logon option and also to update your operating system with Microsoft’s latest patches and drivers.
