Amongst many Belkin’s products, one of them is ‘Belkin Router.’

Belkin Router offers excellent AC Wi-Fi performance to ensure a quick downloading and streaming experience to your devices. It comes with dual band speeds of up to 1600 Mbps – 300 Mbps (2.4 GHz) + 1.3 Gbps (5 GHz.) And it comes with an easy user-friendly setup that you can do with the help of your Smartphone, tablet or computer. With all these good features, sometimes you do face router connection problems. They are natural to happen but can be daunting if not understood well.

Staying powered up with the solution is a good way to ensure a quick rescue in the face of router connection issue. Let’s understand this tiny powerful device called router on which we depend so much but know so little about. To start with- a router is basically a gateway device that usually connects two or three networks. The router operates on those two or three networks at another network which is called ‘Open System Interconnection.’ Your little router consists of a processor, digital memory, several ‘input and output’ interfaces.

Let’s talk about the common issues that one faces with Belkin Routers. Before we start, as a fundamental common sense tip which is often overlooked- is to check that all the cables, lights of the router and wires are properly connected to router and computer that you are using. Also, check the stability of power connection to your device. Let’s have a look at some of the technical troubleshooting solutions that can help you sort out your router issues single-handedly:

Lost internet connection?

Whether you are using a wireless or wired computer, if you face the loss of internet connection, follow these steps to troubleshoot the matter.

  • Firstly unplug the modem, router and your computer in the given sequence.
  • Wait for thirty seconds before you plug them in their respective power sockets in the same order as suggested i.e.- first the modem then the router and then lastly your computer.
  • Your Belkin router will now flash its lights suggesting a starting up of the device. Wait until the lights stabilize.
  • Now you can check whether the internet is working or not by opening any website.
  • If your computer fails to get an internet connection, try to connect your PC directly to the modem. If this also doesn’t work, you now will need to contact your Internet Service Provider.

No Wi-Fi connection?

To enjoy a trouble-free Wi-fi connection on Belkin Router you need to know about three crucial wireless settings. They are:

  • Wireless network name. It is also called SSID.
  • Wireless Security Mode
  • Pre-shared key (PSK)

As a tip, you should never share the password with an unknown person and secondly select a difficult password to ensure safety. Now let’s look into finding the Wireless network name (SSID), Wireless Security Mode and Pre-shared key (PSK) which you will require for your internet connection:

  • Open a browser on your computer.
  • Type in the Router’s IP address in the address bar. The default Belkin Router IP address is 192.168.2.1.
  • You will now see another page which asks you about your Router’s password. In case you haven’t set any custom password of your Router, please leave the section blank.
  • Click on ‘Channel and SSID’ option which can be found on the left-hand side panel. Note down the SSID (name of your wireless network.)
  • On the same panel, click on ‘Security’ option. Search for the Pre-shared key (PSK) and note it down. This is the password that you will need to connect your devices and PC to the internet. You can obscure the PSK characters by un-checking the box which is provided underneath the type-in box.

Router giving intermittent Wireless connection?

Your Belkin router can sometimes give intermittent wireless connection. This can happen due to the usage of same connection in several devices. One simple way to address this issue is to try to change the router channel of your router. This is how you can do it:

  • Open a browser on your computer.
  • Type in the Router’s IP address in the address bar. The default Belkin Router IP address is 192.168.2.1.
  • Click on Login button.
  • Click the ‘Submit’ button without providing any password.
  • Now select ‘Channel and SSID’ under wireless section.
  • Now you can select your desired channel from the ones that are available in your region. Usually, channel 1, 6 and 11 are suggested because of their non-overlapping properties.
  • Finish the process by clicking on ‘Apply’ button and to save the changes.

Is your wireless adapter working?

An adapter is a device that receives the router’s signals. So ensure it is working fine. In case it is not receiving any signals, check whether it is switched on. To learn about the switch on and off settings of your adaptor you can read up your PC’s manufacturer’s documents. Secondly, you can check whether the drives of your wireless adaptor are up to date or not.

Is your Antivirus Software preventing the wireless Router connection?

Sometimes the antivirus software programs block the data packets that connect to the Wi-Fi. To prevent such an issue you check and fix the settings of this software. Also in certain cases, PC’s built-in Firewall prevents the wireless connection too. You should also fix the settings there based on your operating system.
